About Khadim Ndome

From the rhythmic drive of West Africa to the spontaneous landscapes of jazz and the nuanced world of classical orchestras , Khadim Ndome has woven a musical journey that embraces diverse musical worlds.

The musical journey began at the tender age of 3 when Khadim discovered the enchanting world of West African percussions. Developing a profound connection with the beats of the djembe and other traditional instruments, they made an integral part of his musical identity throughout the teenage years.

In 2011, the journey took a classical turn as he embarked on studies in Classical-Orchestral Percussions at the Conservatory F.A Bonporti in Trento, Italy, under the teaching of Alessandro Bianchini. The pursuit led him then 3 years later to the the Conservatory Monteverdi in Bolzano in 2015, guided by the expertise of Gianmaria Romanenghi. Here, the foundations of classical percussion were laid, setting the stage for a harmonious blend of traditions.

Yet, the call of improvisation and the allure of jazz were too fascinating. Khadim delved into the realm of jazz vibraphone under the tutelage of Andrea Dulbecco. The improvisational skills expanded, and the boundaries of musical expression were pushed further.

In 2018, armed with a degree in classical percussion from the Bolzano Conservatory, he embarked on a new chapter at the Universität der Kunste in Berlin, diving into the world of jazz. Under the mentorship of renowned vibraphone player and teacher David Friedman and Julius Heise, Khadim embraced the dynamic energy of jazz improvisation. These studies continue to shape his musical identity.

Recognition followed in 2019 when he clinched the 2nd prize in the "Jazz Vibraphone" category at the international "Italy Percussion Competition."

Balancing classical and jazz pursuits, he furthered their skills in timpani under the guidance of Rainer Seegers and Manuel Westermann. The dual positions Khadim as a versatile percussionist, equally at home in the precision of classical orchestras and the spontaneous creativity of jazz ensembles.

The stage has been a canvas for his musical expressions. From orchestral performances with Babylon Orchester, Metropolis Orchester, Neue Philharmonie Orchester, and ORSO Orchester in Berlin to the intimate improvisational dialogues with jazz personalities like Rolf Zielke, Stephan Braun, Ramiro Olaciregui, Benny Brown, Rainer Winch, and Mohannad Nasser—Khadim weaves a tapestry of sound that transcends genres and captivates audiences.

As his  studies at the Universität der Kunste in Berlin continue, the musical journey unfolds, promising new dimensions of creativity and collaboration. With each beat, Khadim remains a testament to the power of musical exploration and the universal language that connects the world.
